Detention of UAE Activist, Ahmed Ghaith Al-Suwaidi, in Continous Counter-reform Crackdowns
Some
informed resources told (WATAN) that the security authorities in the
United Arab Emirates have arrested UAE activist Ahmed bin Ghaith Al
Suwaidi in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in a petrol station there, according
to the resources. The arrest took about two hours and a half, due to
the refusal of the activist Bin Ghaith to comply with the order of
detention calling the security personnel for showing the prosecution
warrant.
Ahmed bin Ghaith has been forcibly rounded up after getting his car surrounded by a number of security personnel and their vehicles.
Ahmed
Ghaith Al Suwaidi has rare educational background and intellectual
efficiency, as being described by his colleague Mohammed Abdul Razzaq
al-Siddiq, holding a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering and
Masters Degree in Economics from the University of California. He is
also one of the seven Emiratis whose nationalities been recently
withdrawn in the UAE for their demands for reform.
Worth-mentioning,
authorities in the United Arab Emirates launch a recent crackdown on
Emirati activists by arresting some of them and withdrawing the
nationalities of others. The UAE authorities are accusing them of
belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, the group which was attacked
recently by the Dubai Police chief and ruler of Sharjah.
The
arrest of bin Ghaith raised anger within many ranks of activists across
the social networking sites, who were surprised that these night
arrests are odd things to happen in a country like the UAE which
witnessed no security mobility like this before.
Remakably, reformists in the UAE lately complain from the incursion of state security apparatus in the life of Emirati citizens.
